About

MA-LAB group

The Molecular Astrophysics Laboratory is a research group studying star formation and astrochemistry at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. Our research activities focus on observations of star-forming regions in various environments – from nearby molecular clouds to high-z galaxies – and interpreting them using state-of-the-art physico-chemical models. We maintain a large network of international collaborators as well as get involved in interdisciplinary research and outreach projects, e.g. with quantum chemists, physicists and musicians. We actively participate in the organisation of the scientific meetings, seminars, and PhD schools.

The MA-LAB group was officially established in February 2018 as part of the First TEAM grant awarded to Dr. Agata Karska by the Foundation for Polish Science. Previous to this, several team members and students have contributed to its activities since October 2014, initially in the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Currently, the group consists of 3 junior staff members / post-docs, 3 PhD students, and 3 undergraduate students. The group is financially supported by the Foundation for Polish Science, National Science Center and National Agency for Academic Exchange.
